Part of Me by Katy Perry

My kid Keisha is a big Katy Perry fan, and I never really gave her or her songs any attention until we played her songs in the car on a long drive, and I actually liked her! I especially like her Firework song, very inspiring plus this one too. :)

Rob Thomas - Her Diamonds

I like a lot of songs from Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas, but this has to be my favorite of all. :)

Pink's Performance of Glitter in the Air at the 2010 Grammys

Pink has always been one of my favorite pop-rock singers, it's just too bad I missed her performance. This is downright amazing!

Goodbye to the King of Pop

I was surprised to find out that Michael Jackson passed away. I was going to log into my Yahoo Mail when the headline grabbed my attention. The report said he was in full cardiac arrest and didn't have a pulse.

I am sorry to hear that a very important part of the music industry has passed away. Sure, he was involved in child molestation cases and the world watched as his face and skin color changed, but to me he is still just a musician. Whatever he does with his personal life is something that is not really my business. He became popular for his music, not for his personality in the first place.

So to the King of Pop Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009), thank you for the music and you will always be remembered.

Rihanna - Take a Bow

Take a bow

I've always liked rock music, but since I listened to this song by accident, I really liked it. Hope you do so, too!

3 Libras by A Perfect Circle

Threw you the obvious
And you flew with it on your back
A name in your recollection
Down among a million, say:
Difficult enough to feel a little bit
Disappointed, passed over.
When I've looked right through,
To see you naked and oblivious
and you don't see me

Well I threw you the obvious,
Just to see if there's more behind the
Eyes of a fallen angel,
Eyes of a tragedy.

Here I am expecting just a little bit
Too much from the wounded
But I see,
See through it all,
See through,
And see you.

So I threw you the obvious
Do you see what occurs behind the
Eyes of a fallen angel
Eyes of a tragedy

Well, oh well..

Apparently nothing.
Apparently nothing at all.

You don't
You don't
You don't see me
You don't
You don't
You don't see me
You don't
You don't
You don't see me
You don't
You don't
You don't see me at all

Journey - Faithfully

Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You're on my mind

Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sending all my love along the wire
They say that the road
Ain't no place to start a family
Right down the line it's been you and me
And loving a music man
Ain't always what it's supposed to be
Oh Girl
You stand by me
I'm forever yours
Faithfully

Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns to make us smile

Through space and time
Always another show
Wondering where I am lost without you
And being apart ain't easy on this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy of rediscovering you
Oh girl
You stand by me
I'm forever yours
Faithfully

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Faithfully
I'm still yours
I'm forever yours
Ever yours
Faithfully

Journey - Don't Stop Believing

Ever since I found out about Arnel Pineda, the new vocalist of the band Journey that gave us hits like Open Arms and Separate Ways, I became a fan not just because he's Filipino but man, he's got talent! His voice seeps through your bones and you can really feel the emotion in his songs.

His life story reminds me of the movie Rockstar with Mark Walhberg and Jennifer Aniston. He's really living the dream - imagine being the vocalist of the band you used to do cover songs of. Rock on Arnel! Thanks for putting our country on the map.

Check out this video of him performing at the Superbowl and you'll see what I mean.

Excited about the Nokia 5800

I am buying this phone as soon as I get my hands on the check I've been waiting for since August of last year. Hopefully, my check will be here before the 2nd week of February.

Why I like this phone over the previous phone I fell gaga over (the Motorola Rokr) is because of its WiFi. I can blog wherever I am, and I can check my email on the go. Another thing I like about it is its touch screen technology. It's something I've always liked with the iPhone, but I guess I haven't been crazy enough to spend more than Php 30,000 on just a mobile phone.

Henry and I are really excited, and I guess who wouldn't be? It's been years since we bought new phones.

Seal - Kiss from a Rose

In the British music blog that I write for, I featured Seal and this particular song. I didn't even realize that it's been years and years since this song was first featured in the Batman Forever movie. I just love the lyrics, and the way Seal sang this song. He released other great songs, but this one is still my favorite among all.

For me, the song is somewhat a song of hope, when you are at your deepest of moments, you get pulled back into life by love, by a kiss. At least for me, that's what I think about "I've been kissed by a rose on the grave." What do you think?

Brick & Lace - Love is Wicked

On one of the music sites I write for, this duo, Brick & Lace, are the ones we're featuring for the week. I listened to their song and I just couldn't help but dance to their beat. They're a great R&B duo and I am looking forward to hearing more of them.

Tessa Prieto-Valdez wins first ever Celebrity Duets Philippine Edition

Aired last August 11, the Philippine version of Celebrity Duets came to a close earlier tonight with Tessa Prieto-Valdez declared as the first-ever champion of the said show.

A fashion icon, columnist, and socialite, Tessa easily won my heart and about a million other Filipinos with her charisma, outrageous costumes, and her tremendous effort in singing. Admitted to not having been bestowed with a singing voice, Tessa managed to make each and every performance every Saturday night on GMA Network very fun and enjoyable, with Buboy Garovillo, one of the judges commenting that Tessa's performances were the highlight of the show.

I can't forget the look on Tessa's face the Saturday prior to this one, when she and Dr. Manny Calayan were the "bottom two" and one of them was bound to be eliminated. She looked so sad, as if she knew she had already lost and was trying really hard to stop herself from sobbing uncontrollably.

For my mom in law and I, Tessa was already a winner, and we're more than glad to have followed her efforts and her performances from week 1 up to tonight's finals. Yehey Tessa!

From what I know, Celebrity Duets will be replaced by Kakasa ka ba sa Grade 5? I hope it'll be as fun as Celebrity Duets, I've already added this show to the numerous tv shows I watch regularly.

Smashing Pumpkins - the band just won't be the same

I fell in love with this band decades ago.

With the original members Billy Corgan, D'Arcy, James Iha and Jimmi Chamberlin, they literally rocked my teenage life with their hits Perfect and Bullet with Butterfly Wings. The best song they ever wrote (in my humble opinion of course) has to be Stand Inside Your Love, with an equally beautiful music video.

As the saying goes, not all good things are meant to last. The band I loved split and some went into ventures of their own. I remember watching Zwan's video with Billy Corgan actually "smiling" and I swear it sent shivers down my spine. Not that I don't want to see his face happy for a change, it was something I wasn't used to seeing, and I felt that somehow, it just wasn't him.

Since last year, word about Billy Corgan reuniting the Smashing Pumpkins went out, but as an avid fan, I can't help but feel that the band just isn't the same without the original members. Change is inevitable, yet I feel that some changes are for the worst, especially for bands I listen to. Oh well, that's just me. Just watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

Luciano Pavarotti (1935 - 2007)

Yeah, I know I'm a little bit late on publishing this post, I was preoccupied with getting a head start with my travel blog work. But I really wanted to create a post about Luciano Pavarotti not because I'm a fan of classical music, but because he was great and I guess even the best opera tenor of all time.

I honestly grew up listening to Aerosmith and a lot of other alternative rock bands, but whenever I had the chance to listen to classical music, particularly that of Pavarotti's (my dad's a fan), I always get goosebumps. Although his line of music is not really the genre I dig, I still respect the man and the music he made.

I'd like to think now, he's singing his opera songs in heaven and leading a choir of angels.
