5 Things I Want my Kids to Know before they Grow Up

Whew, another meme that just gets my fingers typing!

Well, to be honest, there are a lot, but the 5 most important would have to be:

  • You are loved. And don't even think otherwise!!! Whenever you feel down or lonely or depressed, or anything other than fine, just remember the people around you and how much we care, love, and worry about your well-being. You have parents who'll be more than happy to share stories over a cup of coffee or dinner, or even a shoulder to cry on whenever things aren't going your way. And we'll even offer the extra hand to help to get you back where you were. Always remember that it's not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up.
  • You are worth it. Please do not settle for second best, whether it be love, work, or friendship. Always remember that you were raised to be the best you can be, and you should strive and uphold your value. Don't say yes to things when it's not favorable for you, and don't do things that will decrease your pride and value. Hold your head up, be strong, and know when to say no.
  • You are beautifully wonderful. And you always bring a smile to my face. Just looking at you is enough to make my day. Did you know that I cried when I first saw you after I gave birth to you? I knew I was looking at the most wonderful child any parent could possibly dream of having. I could only wish to be the parent you deserve. You have your own qualities that make you stand out from the rest. Don't settle for being just "one of the crowd," be YOU.
  • You are strong. You were blessed with your own minds, so use it. Stand up for what you believe is right even when no one's backing you up. Be firm regarding your decisions and choices, even if they're not always the right ones. Mistakes are part of life and learning, just make sure not to make the same ones again. Uphold your values, stand up for what you believe in, and have pride in yourself.
  • You have lucky parents. Believe me, it's true. From the time you opened your eyes to the first time you smiled, when you took that first step and spoke that first word were all milestones for us. Just keep growing and learning, and don't forget where you came from. Everything you do makes us proud. We may not be around to say it often, but we couldn't have wished for other children than you guys. Don't forget to pray, and listen to your guts. Your conscience is your second best guide when we're not around.
